This Saturday, Nuneaton Town welcome Steve King's Macclesfield Town side down the M6 from Cheshire, as the home side attempt to bounce back from last weekends defeat.
Macclesfield are the current league leaders after their latest success, a 2-1 win against Braintree Town sending them above Forest Green Rovers and Newport County. Former Nuneaton man Matthew Barnes-Homer was the match winner for The Silkmen on that occasion, securing the victory from the penalty spot. This was their sixth win in eight games so far this season.
Unfortunately, The Boro' go into the game on the back of a slightly less positive result, the 6-1 defeat at the Kingfield Stadium against Woking last Saturday. However, spirit in the camp remains high, with numerous players such as Tom James and Gaz Dean mentioning what a great session we had on Tuesday night, and the players are determined to bounce back. The last game at The Triton Showers Community Arena was the 3-1 victory against Telford, so the Boro' will be looking to build on that home result.
The Silkmen have several high profile players in their squad who have impressed this season. Barnes-Homer has 5 goals to his name in 8 appearances this season, and former Everton youngster John Paul Kissock has been an astute loan signing from Luton Town, creating chances most weeks for the prolific attack of Barnes Homer and ex Preston striker Chris Holroyd.
This is Macclesfields first season back in non league after a spell of 15 years in the football league- the Silkmen playing predominantly in League 2 but also sampling third tier football for one season in 1998. A return to the football league is their aim, and Steve King has done an excellent job in getting them to the top of the table so quickly.
