A young soldier was guest of honour at Liberty Way last month, as Nuneaton Town gave him a hero's send off before his first tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Scott Wright enjoyed one of his last days as a teenager at the Triton Community Showers Arena as Boro earned their first home point of the season with a 2-2 draw against Cambridge United.
Hours later LCpl Wright was deployed to Afghanistan, three days before his 20th birthday.
Scott joined the army straight after leaving Manor Park School at 16 and is currently based in Berkshire.
He said: "This is my first operational tour and when I found out the club were promoted to the Blue Square Bet Premier I was gutted I would be away for most of the first season back in the league where we belong.
"I've been supporting Nuneaton since the age of seven, when my granddad started bringing me down. Even now I make sure I have the weekend off when Nuneaton are playing at home so I can still go with me granddad."
Everyone at Nuneaton Town wishes Scott all the best and hopes he has a safe tour of duty. He and his fellow servicemen and women show enormous courage and we are grateful for the job they do for us all.
